The Wisconsin Club: Family
The Wisconsin Club is family.
It’s what sets it apart. It’s comfortable, families can bring their kids there, and it’s full of events and fun. My parents have been members “forever,” and it’s where we have celebrated countless birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, Marquette victories and more. It’s a truly special place.
And, get this … when I say it’s about family — The City Club, 900 W. Wisconsin Ave., was a single family home for the Alexander Mitchell family, who built it in 1872.
For those that don’t know, Alexander Mitchell was born in Scotland in 1817 and arrived in the U.S. 22 years later. He was a banker — founded Marine Bank — a railroad magnate and Democratic politician who served two terms in the House of Representatives, from 1871–1875. He’s remembered all over Milwaukee, with a street, a park, a landmark Downtown building, 207 E. Michigan St., named in his honor and an airport with a name that honors his grandson, Gen. Billy, who was influential in the creation of the U.S. Air Force.
And, now that I have your interest — there’s the Wisconsin Club Country Club too. An amazing golf course, pool, tennis, signature bar at The Turn and more. Two places, both different — both about community and family.
