No excuses. No “this is why we can’t.” No nothing. Straight up, now is the time to de-gray the Kilbourn Avenue tunnels in Downtown Milwaukee, give them some color, and splash creativity inside.

Northbound tunnel out of Downtown Milwaukee.

Two tunnels come in and out of Downtown Milwaukee on Kilbourn Avenue, and the insides of both are disgusting.

So, I’m calling for the insides of both Kilbourn tunnels to be painted or at the very least brightened. No excuses. No “this is why we can’t.” No nothing. Straight up, now is the time to de-gray these things, give them some color, and splash creativity inside.

In 2019, the north tunnel (I-43 northbound entrance ramp from Kilbourn Avenue) and south tunnel (I-43 northbound exit ramp to Kilbourn Avenue) were repaired replacing leaking expansion joints in both tunnels and replacing a portion of the south tunnel’s ceiling.

Give this tunnel some life!

These tunnels also need color and art. If Milwaukee is to continue to become a more vibrant and innovative city, these things need painting.

Who’s up for the challenge? Let’s do this! 🎨
