If it’s on the menu, I always order the buffalo burger. The meat’s delicious and is a little healthier for you — a little sweeter taste, as my Grandma would always say.

The reason for my buffalo affinity? The Sherman Buffalo Farm.

If you have heard of Nora Springs, Iowa, you’re probably — well, let’s see — one of only a few people in my life who have. To date, only 3 have heard of my Dad’s hometown, Nora Springs. Bryan Pieper, one of my best friends from Marquette. His family grew up 10 miles outside of Nora Springs in Clear Lake. Tom Gerdes, a financial advisor of mine from many years ago. And Kim Anderson, who I don’t know all that well, but met while she worked for Gannett in Milwaukee. That’s the extent of those who I have met that have heard of this small, 1,200 population, Iowa town where my Dad grew up.

In conversations, whenever Iowa comes up — I will say, “Oh, do you know where Nora Springs is?” And Kim Anderson was one of those three people in my life other than obviously my Dad and immediate family, who knew where Nora Springs was. She’s from Nora Springs. By the way, check out her and her husband’s company, NewTree Fruit.

Anyway, I got a Facebook message from Kim the other day and she sent me a news story from her hometown. Thank you, Kim. Truly appreciated.
