This is GREAT news.

I have been calling for a KOPPS FROZEN CUSTARD in Downtown Milwaukee for years. See this 2015 piece that I wrote: https://lnkd.in/g7a-XBbQ

This news, below from Elsa’s restaurant (which shares the same owner of Kopp’s), gets me to close to my custard craving. I mentioned this on our WTMJ show, The Upswing, today, too.

If you’re a fan of Kopp’s and Elsa’s on the Park, as I am, here’s the scoop on what to look forward to with Elsa’s 2.0. It involves custard — FINALLY!

Elsa’s on the Park Reopens: A Milwaukee Classic Reinvented with a New American Twist

Milwaukee, WI — For over four decades, Elsa’s on the Park has held a cherished place in Milwaukee’s culinary landscape. Now, after a meticulous refresh, the iconic eatery is poised to reopen its doors, unveiling a modern take on New American classics that promises to delight both loyal patrons and newcomers alike. Since 1979, Elsa’s has been synonymous with sophisticated simplicity, a legacy the restaurant continues to honor while embracing a new era. The revamped menu marries local ingredients with subtle global influences, creating a dining experience that is approachable, elevated, and distinctly Milwaukee.

An Innovative but Nostalgic Menu

Elsa’s new menu is an ode to comfort food with a contemporary edge. Standout dishes like local Walleye with a pineapple chow chow relish, and a perfectly crisp chicken schnitzel provide a meal experience that’s both innovative and nostalgic, and pizza — a new offering inspired by Elsa’s sister restaurant, Hanny’s in Phoenix — makes its debut. The Elsa’s team traveled across the country to sample techniques in different regions and source a top-of-the-line pizza oven. Pizza options include the Calabrone, featuring spicy sopressata, Italian sausage, honey, and peppers, as well as the Alsatian, a savory masterpiece topped with Nueske’s bacon, caramelized onions, and creamy fromage blanc.

Fans of the establishment will be eager to sample two innovative new burger options — including one borrowing the same patty from esteemed sister restaurant, Kopp’s Frozen Custard.

Dessert: The Sweet Finale

True to Elsa’s playful philosophy — “Life is short; order dessert first” — the reimagined menu welcomes the addition of Kopp’s Frozen Custard, marking the first time the beloved Milwaukee staple is offered outside its own locations. Longtime favorites will also make an appearance, ensuring dessert remains a highlight of the Elsa’s experience.

Rooted in Milwaukee, Refined by Expertise

Elsa’s has gone to great lengths to source the finest local ingredients, forging relationships with Milwaukee’s premier purveyors to craft dishes that reflect the city’s rich culinary heritage. Under the guidance of its Michelin-starred consultant, the menu achieves a balance of comfort and sophistication, ensuring it exceeds expectations without alienating its loyal fan base. With prices ranging from $12 to $29, Elsa’s on the Park continues to offer a premium dining experience that remains accessible, inviting guests to savor elevated New American cuisine in an elegant yet welcoming setting. Additionally, a refined drink menu crafted in partnership with a James Beard nominated beverage consultant will complement the new offerings.

The Grand Reopening

Elsa’s on the Park will officially reopen to the public towards the end of the year, ushering in a new chapter for this Milwaukee institution. To learn more, visit www.elsas.com. As Elsa’s enters its next decade, it does so with the same philosophy that has sustained it for generations: delivering impeccable dishes with heart, soul, and a touch of modern flair. For Milwaukeeans, old and new, this is a reopening worth celebrating.
