Beer Garden your city

Milwaukee’s lack of pretense has created a genuine feeling and concrete principles that you don’t get in other cities. Principles unique to the area, that I believe, can transfer to any city or community.

And, I’m not just talking about slogans for your city. If you don’t have the necessary ad budget for city slogans — they aren’t worth the effort. Yet, I am big on promoting, positioning, and protecting cities.

I’ve always said that a city is only as good as the stories it tells. And, I believe that we all have a responsibility to tell stories about our communities. Of course, one way to do this is to create slogans and ads that can be used to tell the story.

In Milwaukee, you can go all the way back to 1898 to hit on one such slogan that helped position our story. It appeared within an illustration on the cover of a book called “The Book of Milwaukee: Development, Resources, Enterprise and Beauty of the Peerless Cream City” which was written by a newspaper to boost civic tones. “Milwaukee Feeds and Supplies the World,” stuck and is still referenced and mentioned even today.

Milwaukee is uniquely perched on Lake Michigan and just 90 miles from Chicago — so it was a supplier and feeder for the world. Ports and easy access helped make Milwaukee a global manufacturing hub and, of course, a beer-making center.
